Workshop – Djing – Where Did that Sound Come From? ~ A look at the History of Sampling & Use of Music in Today’s Hip Hop Music
The black community is going through a time of struggle, loss, and uprising. Hip Hop culture has been part of the voice nd ongoing narrative of this struggle and overcoming of circumstance narratives from the streets where it is experienced. Through sampling and connecting the past to the present, we are able to hear and feel what our brotherly and sisterly ancestors were going through. How is the sampled song the same? How is the new song saying something slightly different? Workshop participants will discover the sample history of some of the most popular songs known in Hip Hop, and then have a chance to collectively experience the creation of their own sample.
