S.O.N.
Quality is never an accident; it is the combination of good intentions, exceptional effort, intelligent direction and skillful execution; all of which S.O.N. consistently, achieves and delivers in his music. S.O.N., which stands for, Shining Over Negativity, is an extraordinary talent with an impressive catalogue. Hailing from Baltimore, Maryland, S.O.N., born Tavon Dyer began rapping at the age of 17. Growing up in Baltimore was difficult for S.O.N.; he experienced many obstacles and had few role models. His father was a drug addict and was absent for most of his upbringing. S.O.N.’s mother; an Evangelist, tried her best to keep the family together, but faced challenges taking care of him and his brothers on her own. S.O.N. knew what it was like to be without running water, electricity, heat, and the looming threat of eviction over and again. Although S.O.N. experienced many hardships, he rose from it, and would find refuge in music. With fortitude, S.O.N. would press on, and develop his lyrical style.
The same year S.O.N. began rapping, he would join the Air Force. Unable to focus entirely on his music, S.O.N. put his music on hold for a few years. In 2004, and while in Japan, S.O.N. once again dived into his music; he channeled his energy into perfecting his sound, and honing his craft. S.O.N. completed his first project that same year; This Is Not a Demo. After this debut release, S.O.N. remained diligent in pursuing his career in music. The following year, and while still in Japan, S.O.N. released his second project, FaceMusic. While continuing to perfect his craft, and a few years later, S.O.N. released, Harm City. These projects would help set the tone for his fourth project, his first full length album as a solo artist released in 2011; HisStory. Son’s latest project Bmore 2 France was just released on February 1, 2013. Over the years, S.O.N. would receive praise and recognition for his lyricism; he is remarkable and dynamic at constructing and delivering lyrics that flourish with a gritty and realistic content. S.O.N. has collaborated with producers from around the world, whose beats are as timeless and energized as the lyrics laced over them. S.O.N. has proven himself as a mainstay and a formidable talent in the Hip-Hop industry. His lyricism, soul-lifting and gimmick-free delivery, along with his universal sound is impressive, distinctive and validates him as a respected artist.
S.O.N. shares: “I am Co-Founder of the UNIFIED NATIONS of HIP HOP which is a roster of Emcees, Vocalists, Producers and DJ’s from the U.S., Canada, Germany, England, Latvia, Sweden, Japan and France. Our goal is to create music on an international level that’s representative of the diversity of the Hip Hop culture. I am more concerned with making real music and creating my own brand than I am with being signed to a record label. Salute to all my people keeping Hip-Hop alive around the world."
